Developing your Inner Leader

Being a leader has nothing to do with titles, one’s position in the hierarchy of a company or how many degrees one has. Leadership is the ability to influence and translate vision into reality. Robin Sharma, the best-selling author, summarises leadership perfectly as “Leadership is a philosophy. It’s an attitude. It’s a state of mind. And it’s available to each one of us.” We all have the potential to be leaders, we just need to know how. Here are 6 quick tips to developing your inner leader:

Listen

As a leader you need to listen. Listen to employee’s ideas, problems, frustrations and everything in between. By listening you can really hear and understand what your employees and customers want.

Encourage

Be encouraging of your employee’s ideas, projects and their dreams. Getting support from a person they follow builds their confidence.

Assist

Allows be ready to lend a helping hand. It is important to guide and mentor your employees. In today’s fast-pace world, mentoring is vital to the success of many organisations being able to withstand the changing economy.

Develop

It is important to develop relationships with your employees. Arrange social events where you can have one-on-one conversations in a relaxed environment. Get to know what your employee’s passions and hobbies are, and what is important to them.

Enhance

As a leader you need to be able to see potential in your employees and create the right environment to grow and enhance this potential. Leaders also continually look out for opportunities and find solutions to better processes and workflow.

Responsibility

Many leaders get caught up with the power and forget to take responsibility of their employees. It is important to take responsibility and accountability for your actions and your employees.
