Colour and its impact on learning

Colour is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which means that it is a energy with a wavelength and frequency. This energy effects neurological pathways in the brain and creates a biochemical response. Each colour has a specific wavelength and each one affects our body and brain in a different way.

Colour affects our mood, behaviour and learning abilities. It is important to remember to use colours that enhance learning and improve retention when designing eLearning courses. So often than not, we design our eLearning courses with colours that match corporate identity or a logo, instead of looking at what biochemical response a colour creates and if it is contributing to the learning process.
